Component 1: Hazards and vulnerabilities
Water-related health hazards
Pesticides
Water-borne bacteria
Vectors
Define the flood dependent health hazards
What, when and where are the pathogens, vectors and pollutants?
What are the favourable environmental conditions for their development, accumulation and dissemination?
Activity 1: Pesticides
Presence of pesticides depending on flood conditions and locations
Objectives:
Screen pesticides in water compartments (river, canals, rice fields, ponds, groundwater), in sediments and vegetation
Understand the fate of pesticides (origin, circulation, accumulation)
Assess the concentration of possibly toxic pesticides
Activity 2: water borne-bacteria
Burden of neglected diseases due to Leptospira, Burkholderia & other bacteria
Objectives:
Identify the bacterial species present and their spatial and temporal distribution
Define their dynamics linked with flood / pollutants conditions
Activity 3: mosquito vectors
Medical entomology study on vector-borne diseases and associated species (called vectors)
Objectives:
Identify the mosquito species present and their spatial and temporal distribution
Define their dynamics linked with flood conditions
Define the effect of pesticides on the distribution of vector species and their resistance to insecticides
