Training in serology techniques: Mr Soda MENG from IPC visits IPNC for Leptospirosis serology

Soda MENG, a laboratory technician from the Medical Biology Laboratory (LBM) of Institut Pasteur du Cambodge (IPC), has visited the Leptospirosis Unit of Institut Pasteur de Nouvelle-Calédonie (IPNC) during a mission from 15 August to 2 September 2022 in the framework of the FSPI Wat-Health project. Soda met the Leptospirosis Unit team and was trained by Ms Malia KAINIU to the reference leptospirosis serology technique: the microagglutination test or MAT. Using a panel of 22 serovars, he contributed to the serological analysis of the 500 samples collected in May 2022 for the human seroprevalence survey in Prek Sdei (Koh Thum district) by the IRD (French National Institute for Sustainable Development)-IPC GeoHealth and IPC-LBM Teams (work package C1A2).

The results obtained during his stay at IPNC have allowed selecting a limited 12-serovar panel for routine analysis of Cambodian serum samples. They also suggest a massive exposure of the Prek Sdei population to pathogenic leptospires, with a significant contribution of livestock to this endemic exposure.
